A temp agency has agreed to pay $75,000 to settle a federal lawsuit alleging its La Crosse office discriminated against a deaf job seeker.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged Olsten Staffing Services refused to refer Zachary Schaefer for a temporary production position at Main Street Ingredients, a La Crosse food manufacturer, because Schaefer is deaf. The EEOC maintained the ability to hear was not a job requirement.

Judges lauded the hard cheese for its creamy texture and light hint of herbs.

A 14-year-old girl accused of providing the prescription drugs that killed a 13-year-old boy will be sent back to juvenile court.
Prosecutors say they'll recommend three years in juvenile custody and a rehabilitation program for the girl. She earlier appeared in adult court for the death of Alex Aiken. The girl is accused of providing the painkiller oxycodone to Aiken.

Wisconsin residents applying for a driver's license would be automatically registered to vote under a Democratic-backed election reform bill.
The proposal made public on Thursday makes a number of other reforms that its sponsors say will increase access to elections, make them run more smoothly and make sure everyone's vote counts.
